Squirrels have chainsaws for teeth! They can chew through boards and building materials that would blow most people’s minds. That being said, getting squirrels to leave the premises for good can be extremely difficult. Good news — we at Jason’s Wildlife Removal are no rookies when it comes to squirrel removal.
There are several species of squirrels in the great state of Georgia. We have Fox Squirrels, Flying Squirrels, and Gray Squirrels. The squirrel which everyone is the most familiar with, however, is the Eastern Gray Squirrel. These guys are notorious for getting into attics and wreaking havoc!
One piece of good news is that squirrels don’t carry a lot of diseases. Aside from rare cases and flea and tick-borne diseases, squirrels are not a huge health concern to humans. The main health risk presented by squirrels lies in what they chew. A wire with no protective/insulating coating creates a very real fire hazard. This is one reason that leaving squirrels in your attic for a prolonged amount of time is a very bad idea. Squirrels are also notorious for destroying insulation, foul odor, attic noises, etc. In other words, a squirrel is the epitome of a bad house guest!
Chewing damage normally presents around the gutter line or at soffit roof intersections. Eastern Gray Squirrels do not skimp when it comes to the size of their entry point. They will chew a hole much larger than what they actually need in order to enter the home. This does work in our favor in most cases because it makes the entry points easier to find, even though it does make the repair a little more difficult. That’s ok, though, because we have done this a time or two!
Once we determine that squirrels are indeed the issue, we then locate their entry points and start phase one of the squirrel removal job. That is catching the squirrels and getting them off of your property. Once all of the squirrels who know about your attic are removed, we go into the second phase, which is repairing any chewing damages and squirrel-proofing your home. We seal the house so that any new squirrels who find their way to your gutter line will never know what they are missing by not being inside. At this point, the job is complete and you are squirrel free.
